About Grant Cochran

I’m Northland born and bred, having grown up locally and attended Paihia Primary School and Kamo High School. Shortly after turning 18, I headed overseas, travelling and working abroad before returning to New Zealand in my mid-20s with a broader perspective and a strong work ethic.

My early career spanned several industries before I found my calling in healthcare, training as a Registered Nurse. Over the following 16 years, I worked in high-pressure ICU environments at Whangārei Hospital, across multiple Australian hospitals, and in remote communities throughout Australia. These roles demanded precision, calm decision-making, clear communication, and absolute accountability — skills that continue to underpin how I work with clients today.

On returning to Northland, I stepped into senior leadership roles as Clinical Nurse Manager at Bay of Islands Hospital and later as Village Manager at Kerikeri Retirement Village. Guiding people through significant life transitions sharpened my ability to listen carefully, manage complex situations, and deliver outcomes with empathy and professionalism.

Alongside my professional career, real estate has been a long-standing passion. My wife Hallie and I have bought, renovated, and sold multiple properties over the years, giving me first-hand experience in value creation, negotiation, and the realities of the property market. We’re now settled on our five-acre lifestyle block, working on our latest (and final!) renovation — a relocated home brought up from Auckland.

Our two children attend Kerikeri High School, and as a family we love boating and exploring everything this incredible region has to offer. When I’m not working with clients or on the property, you’ll most likely find me out spearfishing somewhere along Northland’s coastline.

Real estate, for me, is about more than property — it’s about people, trust, and getting the details right when it matters most.

Sale of a property with a genuine effort to keep things moving forward in a very challenging market.

Communication was key in the sale of my in-laws property. Elderly father in-law was having health and memory issues and I stepped in to help him through the process of moving into a retirement village with the community support he needed. Communication was key to keeping things moving. Grant was always very clear about when open homes would be. We reviewed the asking price regularly to try to prompt a sale and meet a falling market. Sometimes we didn’t get a call back after an open home - just to update up on if anyone had been through etc. and we were keen to know. Otherwise Grant was always on the ball and had a great knowledge of what the market was doing and his feedback was important, to confirm we were meeting the current market. I would highly recommend Grant at REAL in Kerikeri. He is very approachable, professional and understanding. Thank you Grant and the team at REAL

Couldn't be more helpful

Grant has been nothing but helpful in this process, buying my first home has been an incredibly challenging process and stressful time with everything going on in life with other appointments ect, but Grant has done an incredible job at making all the small details known, organising times and appointments around what will suit everyone best and been incredibly patient with me while I've tried to wrap my head around everything and constantly checking in to see if there was anything more that I needed throughout the process Top quality agent, and all round good guy. Couldn’t recommend Grant more to any buyer or seller Thank you, Grant for everything, helping me into a space to call my own.
